Leigh Cusack of Seaford has done it again. Well done Leigh.
Leigh writes: 'The aircraft is a Boulton Paul P29 Sidestrand Mk111. The first prototype flew in 1926. The only squadron to be equipped with the type was 101 Squadron which began accepting deliveries from 1928. The P29 went through continuous production and post production upgrades up to the Mk1V variant, then renamed the Overstrand in 1934.
The Sidestrand had a crew of 3; the pilot, forward gunner and rear gunner. Bomb payload was 475 kgs. Guns consisted of 3 x .303 Lewis machine guns. Engines were 2 x Bristol Jupiter V11F each rated at 460hp. Ceiling was 20,500 ft. Speed 121 knots at 6,500ft. Range 450 nm.
Total production was 20 aircraft, with 4 converted to Overstrands.
It was classed as a medium bomber and was named after the village on the Norfolk coast not far from the Boulton Paul factory.'
Thanks Leigh. I must admit that I did not have those details, but I do have another photo. Incidentally, the picture with all the crew was taken at 101 Squadron in 1931.
