Information about the First Prize

It is a trip to next year's Oshkosh Air Show in beautiful Wisconsin, U.S.A.  Accommodation will be provided in the dormitories of the University of Wisconsin.  This is their summer season and the university is in summer recess.

A view of the main runway, with aircraft parked in the background

For aviation buffs, Oshkosh is the centre of the universe.  It is holy ground.  Aviation people with something to say, something to do and with something to show will be there.

The impeccably prepared Ford Trimotor which does daily flights around the airport

During the last week of July, Oshkosh becomes the world's busiest airport.  Thousands of aircraft, domestic and international, descend upon the green and verdant countryside of Wisconsin to take part in the annual Experimental Aircraft Association's Convention.  From the earliest years of flight to the latest, aircraft will take off and land to provide a non-stop pageant.

Ground theatre like this transports you back to long-gone times

What will be there?  That's difficult to say, except that aircraft from all sectors of the aviation spectrum will be there.  They will be there in the thousands.  As it happened, at the 2009 Convention, the Airbus A-380 flew in as the star attraction.

On the ground there will be static displays, daily workshops, aircraft by the row, flea markets, souvenir stalls, amusements, aircraft and helicopter rides, etc.  Within the airport precincts there is even a flight museum.  By week's end, if you have been energetic, you may have covered it all!

You can take a flight or go for a walk through on the ground

Oshkosh is in America's mid-west.  It is north of Chicago and not far from Milwaukee.  It is green and well watered countryside with daily temperatures in the 30s.  The prize is for an eight day stay in the U.S. but there is the opportunity for the prize winners to extend that by advance arrangement with the tour operator.  Matter of fact, the prize winners can use their time in the U.S. for personal travel wherever they want to go should Oshkosh not be their thing.

The second prize is exciting too.  Imagine the keys to a Club plane till you rack up a $1,000 worth of flying or take the prize as fuel for your own aircraft!

Importantly, let's all get behind this initiative to ensure that it is a success.
